| I am first a foremost a knitter. I have been knitting off and on for about thirty-five years, but only got totally fanatical about it in the past ten. In my frustrated desire to find beautiful and colorful yarns, I started experimenting with dyeing my own. My first results were somewhere between hideous and terrible, but I kept at it until the results pleased me. My favorite thing is to work up knitting patterns so that the colors do magic tricks! I have had designs published, and have also won some national design contests. You can see many of my original patterns at: http://flickr.com/photos/22286833@N02/sets/72157603622653791/ The colors that I use on my yarns and threads are inspired largely by nature-- generally flowers, landscapes, or rocks and minerals (in a former life I was a professional geologist), although occasionally the colors that come out don’t resemble anything natural at all! You can see many of my favorite colorways at: http://flickr.com/photos/22286833@N02/sets/72157603617921590/ I dye my yarns at home, with help from my husband, three beautiful children, two cats, a dog, gerbils (numbers vary), a turtle, and hundreds of tropical fish. |
